Tarrytown House Estate:
From Golden Cakes to Jeweled Elephants - Beautiful Weddings Large
"Who doesn't want to make their wedding day unforgettable," says Laura Bass, Senior Catering Sales Manager at Tarrytown House Estate, adding that the popular estate will go to great lengths to honor a client's request. "We once brought in an elephant for an Indian wedding," she says. "Another time it was a white horse that the bride groom rode down the aisle."
From the lavish to the sentimental, this historic estate, overlooking the Hudson River, produces one amazing wedding after the next.
What is the most luxurious wedding party that you have ever organized? "Last July," says Laura, "we hosted a wedding with an ivory, pink and gold theme. The client wanted the entire ballroom draped in ivory fabric so that the walls would fit in with the color scheme. The five-layer cake was covered in edible gold to match the gold chiavari chairs. Flowers -- pink roses, white hydrangeas and peonies -- adorned the chandeliers. And unbelievably, the bride wore two white wedding gowns -- one for the reception and one for the dinner."
Tell us about the most sentimental. "Definitely a December wedding in the 1895 Winter Palace," she says, "where the groom brought in an antique sled and filled the room with heirlooms and candles. In addition to passed hors d'oeurvres, there were soup stations and crepe and hot chocolate stations at the end for dessert."
When asked about the most unique wedding, Laura describes a ceremony where one couple got married on Halloween weekend and began their reception with a costume parade. "This may not be all that unusual," she says, "since this is Washington Irving country where the Legend of Sleepy Hollow took place."
Big weddings of 350, occur in the Mary Duke Ballroom Parties around 200 or under take place in the historic Biddle Mansion in the Winter Palace reception room, adorned with floor to ceiling windows. Smaller weddings, 65 or under, take place in the lovely Georgian-style King Mansion, where a fireplace and wood-paneled salon give the dinner a cozy ambiance.
Whatever the size or theme, no wedding request is too small or too grand, for this exquisite
19th-century estate, with its lavish grounds and breathtaking views of the Hudson River. A bridal favorite, Tarrytown House Estate has been fashioning unforgettable weddings for generations.
